Sugar House to be the next addition to the Bird Farm.
VP Board member Dan Jacobs is working to build a Sugar House with grants and donations on the Bird Farm property behind the Houlton High School.
According to a Bangor Daily News Article, the students at Houlton High School, under the supervision of Todd Willard, have been tapping trees and making maple syrup the old-fashioned way by boiling the sap over an outdoor fire.
Bird Farm Committee member Dan Jacobs tells Bangor Daily reporter Jen Lynds , “Right now, the equipment these students are using is pretty primitive. The students are doing it the way the colonists did. The new facility is going to have modern equipment so the students can see how it is done today and learn the newest technique."
Dan is very optimistic that the Sugar House can be built with the help of grants and good old-fashioned generosity towards education.
Vital Pathways will continue to work as fiscal agent on grants for this project and others to continue our involvement in keeping the Bird Farm the great educational resource it has become.
